I am brown but not illegal

I am curving but i dont expose my body

Yes i come from an immigrant mom and no i dont know my father

Yes i go to school and no i dont plan to drop out

Yes i have friends who got pregnant and no i wont get pregnant anytime soon

Yes my mom worked long hours just for us to get by and no i dont need u to feel sorry for me

Yes my Mexican people are being targeted and no i wont just stand and watch 

I wear my brown skin proudly and embrace the essence of my culture.

I am a young woman,a Catholic, a sister, a daughter, a college student, a friend, I AM CHICANA. 

I rather be hated for who i am then be loved for who i am not. 

I dont want you to look into my eyes I want you to see through them,

To see through all the BS, through all the pain and hurt.

I dont want you to just kiss my lip, I want you to hear me speak,

To acknowledge my opinion in every shape or form

I dont want you to just hear me, I want you to listen and understand me,

To understand that i too am imperfect

I dont want you to just kiss my forehead, but respect my mind

To understand i have a voice too.

I dont want you to hold my hand, I want you to feel the labor that awaits them,

To appreciate the strong, hard working woman i am.

I dont want you to just pray and go to church with me, I want you to get me to heaven 

To make God the center of our relationship.

I dont want you to agree with me, i want you to prove me wrong

To accept my mistakes and for us to learn from them.

I dont want you to stand behind or infront of me , I want you to stand next to me,

To be my life long partner through think and thin

I dont need you to me muscular, but i do need you to be strong,

To be strong when i fall, or break or am vulnerable

I dont ask to be your world, but i long to share wit u mine

To build a world together. 

I dont ask that you come today, tomorrow but i do ask that u come soon

And when you do to not leave. To love me and the essence of my love.
